Should we accept globalization?


 Globalization has become a hot and controversial issue. Connecting to the Internet and fast vehicles make it possible to meet other people who live across the world. At the click of a keyboard or a phone call button, people have an easy and comfortable way to interact with foreigners.  It causes globalization which makes the world becomes a global town. However, this new, fast flow is a hot controversy. Some people believe that globalization can bring world peace and it might help people understand each other’s culture. So they suggest that globalization can help people protect not only their own culture but also the other’s unique culture. They claimed that it is probably helpful for people but in my opinion, globalization destroyed diverse culture. Because it is composed by some huge developed countries, their culture can control and direct our sights. So, I think that the government of each country should make a rule to protect their cultural diversity. 


 First of all, globalization has an unfair influence. Developing countries can’t cause a huge impact for the global society. They just get another culture passively such as American culture or European culture. While they accept developed countries’ culture, their own culture disappears. However, the other countries such as developed countries’ culture have huge and diverse effects everywhere. For instance, many Asian cultures disappeared after western culture came in. In my country, South Korea was affected by American culture a lot. In early of 1980th and 1990th, everyone wanted to look like American stars. Some entertainers and professors claimed that we need to develop and protect our own cultural resources but no one was interested in doing that. developed country’s culture was new and addictive for the other countries which don’t know about new culture such as Korea. These culture changed Korean culture. Their strong flow made people think our culture was worse than the American culture. Especially, American culture is one of the most popular cultures in the world. They spread out their pop music and fast food all over the world.   Now, our children all know about Lincoln who an important president of America but they don’t know about who was our first president. Because cultural influence is hard to catch, people recognized our unique culture was vanished by them too late.


 Also, once the culture disappear or vanished, we can’t restore it again. Globalization is done too fast and it is too difficult to stop or postpone. South Korean government had mistaken about this sort of problem and it caused many trouble. In 1970, Korean Government wanted to change our meal system like American or European because they believe it is healthier than Korean traditional meal style. They also thought that Korea needed global meal system for globalization. So, they made policy which made people eat more western food. They had campaign about it and advertised it. Everyone is that age thought hamburger or French fries were better than some traditional soup because the government said that. We were poor and didn’t know what the right thing was. Also we didn’t know any other western food at that time.  However, according to research, Korean food style which based on healthy vegetables and vegetable based sources are better than the other countries’ style for Korean people’s health. The government tried to change it again but easy and fast ready-made food was hard to eliminate. Still. Korean enjoys that. Our traditional food is treated like an old fashioned thing. Of course people who know we need change are trying to change and we are changing slowly. I believe it is not too late but much of our traditional food culture is disappearing. 


 Some people think that globalization brings world peace. They believe that globalization makes possible to understand the other cultures and it give better cultural relative perspective. Some sociologists said that globalization is the first step to be  a peaceful world. By understanding other cultural features and adapting good point of them, we can build our culture more stable and sustain tradition. However, in my opinion, theory is just theory. There are a lot of variables and we can’t find all of them before we accept something. Globalization had already cause bad results on many developing countries and even some developed countries. For instance, France is known as one of the most developed countries and they are proud of their culture so the French government wants to protect their culture. French government regulates other language very strictly because of that reason. However, many teenagers in France love to copy English rather than French. They said that French is too long and hard to use. Some cultural effect is too strong and fast. We can’t resist on accepting them. And also, after we accept another culture and it replace our unique culture. It is almost impossible to return before we took it. 


 Currently, people argue about globalization effect. Some people thought it is good for every countries and it will be base of world peace. However, some people think globalization spoils our traditional culture. In my opinion, I agree with that. Globalization has bad effect for our own, traditional culture. Because it is too fast, we can’t catch that we mistake a lot. So, I suggest that each government should found some department or campaign to protect and sustain each country’s own culture and try to activate it.
